Mighty Beast, a documentary poem takes as its focus the auction sale ring. The auctioneer works through the sale of livestock, and other things: sales of depression, grief, isolation, catastrophe, human-animal welfare and vulnerability within the tough, shared system of modern agriculture and economics. Much of the original poem was written on site at livestock markets and during interviews with farmers, auctioneers and hauliers.

A performance at the Bristol Old Vic was directed by Caroline Hunt as part of Ferment 2010, based on extracts taken from the larger poem.

Mighty Beast has been produced for 'Between the Ears' on Radio 3 by Sara Davies, incorporating extracts from the poem, and conversations with market staff, farmers and auctioneers who inspired the work. Chris Bianchi as the auctioneer; soundscape by Elizabeth Purnell. It was first broadcast on 26th January 2013. Link to BBC iplayer ...
